William “Bill” Harvey Joyner Sr., 91, of Mocksville, passed away at his home on May 24, 2019.
Bill was born July 12, 1927, a son to the late Robert Lee Joyner and Ada Mae Collins Joyner. He attended Rural Hall schools and on July 9, 1948, he married Peggy Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son William “Billy” Joyner Jr., son Jeffrey “Jeff” Dean Joyner and nine siblings.
In life, Bill worked as a Greyhound bus driver for 30 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He was a member of Blaise Baptist Church. He was also a former member of the Ruritan Club. In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed playing guitar and making music with his siblings and traveling in his RV but his main love was family gatherings.
William is survived by a large and loving family, including his wife of 70 years, Peggy Adams Joyner of Mocksville, son Michael “Mike” K. Joyner (Lisa) of Mocksville, son Robert “Bob” A. Joyner (Merrilyn) of Mooresville, daughter Brenda J. Legg of Mocksville, daughter Deborah J. Hendrix (Boyd) of Mocksville, daughter Martha J. McCraw of Advance, brother Ovilla Joyner, sisters Roberta Grantham (Ronnie), Zerilda Amos and Arlene Lowe, 14 grandchildren; Dana Joyner, Marc Joyner, Josh Carpenter, Chris Gibson, Angela Tedder, Amanda Blalock, Aaron Long, Michael Joyner Jr., Leigh-Anne Weatherman, Joe Joyner, Brandi Joyner, Amber DeLeo, Shane Brennan, T.J. McCraw, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 27 at Blaise Baptist Church in Mocksville from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at noon immediately following the visitation, with Glenn Sellers officiating. Interment will follow at the Blaise Baptist Church Cemetery.
