   Wanda “Jo” (O’Neal) Johnson, 65, of Advance, NC, entered her heavenly home on February 13, 2021 at her home in Davie County.

   Jo was born March 5, 1955 in Cabarrus County, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Albert Bart O’ Neal and the late Juanita Frances (Crabtree) O’Neal.  In addition to her parents, her sister, Regina O’Neal, precedes Jo in death.

   In life, Jo graduated from Wake Forest University and Duke University ultimately achieving a master’s degree.  Jo used her degree, along with her love of children, to work as a minister to children and families at several churches in western North Carolina. Most recently, she spent 8 years as a Children’s Minister for Riverhills Community Church in River Hills, South Carolina.  Jo met the love of her life, Barry Johnson, in June of 2013; they were married in Mocksville.  Jo attended church at St. Paul’s Church in Winston-Salem.

   Jo leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Barry Johnson; a son, Jacob Steagald, of Roebuck, SC; a daughter, Bethany Welborn-Ruhl, and son-in-law, Eric Ruhl, of Roebuck, SC; a brother, Bart O’Neal, of Cary, NC; 2 granddaughters, Eleanor and Rosie Jo; and many friends who she thought of as family.
