Obituary
Sallie Mae (Weatherman) Ashley, age 94 of Jonesville, NC, entered her heavenly home on June 22, 2023, at her home in Yadkin County.
Sallie was born on July 9, 1928, in Yadkin County. She was the daughter of the late Virgil Weatherman and Dora (Southard) Weatherman. In addition to her mother and father, Sallie was preceded in death by her loving husband Aaron Dale Ashley, a son Dennis Ray Ashley, a daughter-in-law Donna Pardue Ashley, a brother Jack Weatherman, three sisters Mattie Gay Ashley, Carlene Edwards, and Francis Wilson, and a stepfather J.D. Cheek.
In life Sallie chose a career in the textile industry where she worked as a sewing machine operator with Bates Nightwear for many years until she retired. As a Christian woman Sallie attended Graceful Gospel Church as she was able.
Sallie leaves behind to cherish her memory, three children Janice Mitchell (Don), Sue Wagoner, and Charles Ashley, grandchildren Melissa Choplin (James), Russ Ashley (Alisha), Jason Talley (Angie), Melanie Pollard (Joey), Molly Dillard (Greg), Tiffany Ashley, Christy Ashley, Michelle Vincent (Chris), and Heather Cassells (Cole). Also surviving Sallie are her many great grandchildren; Aaron Ashley, Destiny Hayes, Caroline and Brady Vincent, Hayden and Lillian Beck, Rhett and Caroline Cassells, Lauren Hunter (Kody), Brandon Anderson, Austin and Justin Choplin, Samuel Henson (Madi), Hannah Pollard, Chambers and Ayla Dillard, three great great grandchildren Aaron Ashley, Jr., Owen and Easton Hunter, sisters-in-law Versie Mendenhall, Era Vestal, and Patty Swaim, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
On Sunday, June 25, a visitation for Sallie will be held from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Davie Chapel of Yadkinville. Following visitation at 3:00 pm Pastor Bobby Prevette will officiate a funeral service. Sallie will be laid to rest in Yadkin Memorial Gardens.
