Mercedes Irene (Titus) Burum, age 88, of Mocksville, N.C., peacefully passed away on April 25, 2022, from her home in Davie Co.
Mercedes was born on July 19, 1933, in California. She was the daughter of the late Gordon Titus and Alice (Bowen) Titus. In addition to her parents, Mercedes was preceded in death by her brothers, Ben and Buddy Titus, and her sister, Loraine Farmer.
In life, Mercedes graduated from California schools where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Later, she chose a career in Commercial Construction as an Architect and Designer. She worked for both Lake Norman Design and United Construction until she retired in 2009. Mercedes was of the Baptist faith and attended church at Calahan Friendship Baptist Church. She was the church door greeter at Grace Covenant of Cornelius, N.C. When she wasn’t serving the lord, Mercedes loved to serve her family, loved reading, her business, and baking apple pies.
Mercedes leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving son, Robert “Bob” Burum of Mocksville, two grandchildren, Jenell Burum Voelske (Michael) of Statesville and Brenda Burum Whisnant (Ryan) of Statesville, and her many great grandchildren, Breanna Austin, Kimberlyn, Kendall, and Nolan, who will all miss her greatly.
A visitation for Mercedes will be held on April 30, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Calahan Friendship Baptist Church. Following visitation at 5:00 pm a funeral service will begin, also at Calahan Friendship Baptist Church. Pastor Carroll Jordan will officiate the service. Mercedes will be laid to rest in Calahan Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
