Melvin Gillaspie Obituary

Melvin Samuel Gillaspie, 81, of Lexington, NC, entered his heavenly home on October 21, 2020 at his residence in Davidson County, NC.

Melvin was born June 24, 1939 in Davie County, NC, the son of the late Boyden Gillaspie and Willie Era (Boger) Gillaspie.  In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by a son Charles Gillaspie, a daughter Marilyn Marie Gillaspie, a sister Corrina Williams, and 2 brothers Terry and Johnny Gillaspie.

In life Melvin attended and graduated from Davie High School with the class of 1950.  Melvin met and married his wife of 29 years, Barbara Sue Spaugh.  Melvin worked in the tobacco manufacturing industry as a maintenance worker with R.J. Reynolds for 46 years.  Melvin was of the Baptist faith and attended Bixby Church of Living God.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife Barbara Sue (Spaugh) Gillaspie of Lexington, NC, his 4 sons David S. Gillaspie (Bobbie) of Shelby, NC, Melvin Boyden Gillaspie of Lexington, NC, Melvin Gillaspie of Winson-Salem, NC, Zachary Gillaspie (Jodi) of Hickory, NC, 4 daughters Mary Daniels (Douglas) of Winston-Salem, NC, Melva Adams of Lexington, NC, Heather Marie Gillaspie of Greensboro, NC, Teresa Masters (Travis), a brother William Gillaspie (Ronda) of Thomasville, NC, 2 sisters Doris Bradley (Bob) of Thomasville, NC, Dorothy Steen of King, NC, 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A visitation for Melvin will be held Saturday October 24, 2020 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Davie Funeral Service of Mocksville.  A funeral service for Melvin will be held Sunday October 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel.  Officiating Melvin’s service will be Rev. Rick Marson.  Melvin will be laid in his final resting place at the Bixby Church of Living God Cemetery.
