Linda “Sue” (Gaither) Mastin, 76, of Mocksville, NC, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, NC.
Sue was born December 15, 1944 in Davie County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late John Wesley Gaither and the late Cleo Mary Jane (Semon) Gaither. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Grant, a brother, Gerald Henderson Gaither, and a nephew, Eric Grant.
In life Sue attended Iredell County Schools and earned an Associate’s degree. Later, she became the first woman to finish an apprenticeship to work on nuclear subs for the Navy as a federal employee, as well as the first woman to work as a machinist on Naval vessels. After, retiring as a machinist, Sue became a department manager at Walmart. Sue met the love of her life, Douglas John Mastin and got married in 1979, in Reno, Nevada. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Ijames Baptist Church. Sue was also former a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Sue was a wonderful lady that loved to donate her time to organizations such as Meals on Wheels with her church group, she loved animals, and she loved to can foods.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, John Mastin, of Mocksville, sons, Harold Donald “Bert” Blalock of Boone, NC, John D. Mastin of Vacaville, CA, Jude Daniel Mastin of Sacramento, CA, daughters Kerry Blalock Barker of Chesapeake, VA, Michelle Tyczki (Tom) of El Cajon, CA and a brother, Michael Lee Gaither (Cathy) of Orlando, OK. Also, surviving Sue are her grandchildren, Eric Michael Barker, Bella Mastin, Antoinette Reyes, along with six others, one great grandchild, Ricky Mastin, nephews Craig and Jeff, and a niece Hanna.
A visitation for Sue will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at Ijames Baptist Church. Following visitation will be a funeral service starting at 1:00pm at Ijames Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Pastor Robert Jackson. Sue will be laid to rest in Ijames Cemetery.
