James "Jim" Lloyd Roberts

James “Jim” Lloyd Roberts, 87, of Mocksville, NC, departed this world to be with his heavenly Father on June 2, 2021, from his home in Davie County, NC.

Jim was born July 21, 1933 in Iredell County, NC.  He was the son of the late William Paschal Roberts and the late Ethel Estelle (Foster) Roberts.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant child, his brother, John “Bud” Roberts, and his sister, Margaret Carter.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.  He married the love of his life, Letty Mae (Wagner) Roberts on June 8, 1956 in Davie County.  He attended Catawba College, earning his Accounting degree in 1961.  He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for five years in Charlotte, NC. Then, he attended the Wake Forest University School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1969.  He worked as an attorney in Charlotte for over 30 years, retiring in 2002.  He loved music and particularly loved singing.  He played the guitar, and later, the dobro.  He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. In Charlotte, he was an active member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. In Mocksville, he was an active member of Turrentine Baptist Church. He served in both churches as deacon and Sunday school teacher.  And he enjoyed accompanying the pastor on weekly visits. 

Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Letty Roberts of Mocksville; three sons, Steve Roberts (Sue) of Mocksville, Carl Roberts of Mocksville, and William Roberts (Janene) of Boomer, NC; two grandchildren, Natalie and Nicole, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Jim will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at Turrentine Baptist Church.  The funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 pm at the church.  Officiating the service will be Pastor Fred Carlton. Jim will be buried with military honors at Turrentine Baptist Church.
