George Henry Stevens, Jr., 70, of Statesville, NC, entered his heavenly home on May 2, 2021 from Iredell Memorial Hospital.
George was born on January 5, 1951 in Gallitzin, PA. He was the son of Dorothy (Eckenrode) Stevens and the late George Henry Stevens, Sr. In addition to his father, George is preceded in death by a brother Robert “Bobby” Stevens, an Uncle David Eckenrode, and an Aunt Linda Johnson.
In life George graduated from Penn Cambria High School. He was a mechanic for 20 years before becoming an armored guard and transported money for Loomis Fargo before retiring. George met and married the love of his life Mary Ann (Boger) Stevens in August of 1973. George was dedicated to his faith and was a member of Plain Truth Pentecostal Tabernacle of Statesville. He was instrumental in handling the music at his church, he played guitar and was a singer and song writer, too. When George wasn’t playing music for his church he enjoyed going to the flea market, camping and fishing and was a member of Bass Masters.
George leaves behind to cherish his memory; a mother Dorothy Stevens of Gallitzin, PA, his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Stevens of Statesville, a son Scott Stevens of Pennsylvania, daughters Sheila Moose (Timothy) of Statesville, Patricia Hernandez (Jose) of Statesville, Tammy Stevens of Pennsylvania, and Althea Latham of Georgia. George is also survived by his sisters Mary Ann Dybus of Gallitzin, Lynn James of Gallitzin, Susan Thomas of Cresson, PA, grandchildren Adrianna Hernandez Williams (Austin), Nicky Hernandez, Caleb Carney, Tabby Burton (Dillon), Sherry Moose, Nathan Furches, great grandchildren Levi Carney, Leah Carney, Zachariah Carney, Whitley Burton, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for George will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 12:00pm – 1:00 pm at Plain Truth Pentecostal Tabernacle of Statesville. Following visitation at 1:00 pm will be a memorial service. Pastor Tim Moose will officiate the service.
