Mr. George Homer Frye, 94, of Mocksville, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Mr. Frye was born in Davie County to the late Ira “Bill” Frye and Beatrice Jenkins Frye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Gwen Ratledge Frye and a daughter, Deborah Frye Burgess.
He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Evelyn F. Trexler, Elizabeth “Lib” F. Lefler, Mildred F. Spry, Ruby F. Fisher and an infant sister.
He is survived by a son, George H. Frye, Jr. of Mocksville, son-in-law Roy Burgess (Shirley) of Statesville; grandchildren Chad Burgess (Candance) and Kristi Drake (Michael); and great-grandchildren Kalyn Chapman, Macie Bowlin, Cierra Burgess and Kylie Burgess.
Thanks to special caregivers Ellen Bishop, Janie Coe and Shirley Burgess for their assistance in helping Mr. Frye to remain living at home.
Mr. Frye enjoyed spending time at the beach, watching NASCAR races and rooting for Tar Heels in basketball. He was well known as a highly skilled auto mechanic, having spent many years working at the local ford dealership. He concluded his working life by retiring from Ingersoll-Rand in Mocksville.
Mr. Frye was proud of his service in the United States Navy during World War II. He was also a member of Mocksville Masonic Lodge #134.
Because of the Covid surge, no formal visitation will be held. But friends may pay their respects by dropping by Davie Funeral Service on Thursday, January 6, 2022, between the hours of 10:00 am – 5:00 pm to sign the register book and view the video montage.
A funeral service with Covid protocols will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Columbarium in Rose Cemetery in Mocksville. Reverend Mike Byrd will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to charities of the donor’s choice.
