Daniel Lanier Motley Jr., age 92, died the morning of June 28, 2019 at Mocksville Senior Living.
Daniel was born in Rockingham County in October 1926.
Daniel was a caring father, grandfather, and friend of the community. Daniel held a Bachelor of Arts from Elon College and Master of Education from UNC Chapel Hill. He was a member of the National Social Science Honor Society. He served in the Navy. He retired from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools as a Guidance Counselor at Parkland High School. He was known to keep in contact with his students and attend their graduations.
He loved spending time on the family farm and he would spend his last years in Davie County.
Daniel was married to the late Dorothy (Dot) Motley. Daniel was preceded in death by his son David Motley and daughter Debra Motley.
Survivors include his grandchildren Danielle Motley of Los Angeles; John Motley and Samuel Motley of Mocksville; daughter-in-law Lisa Motley of Mocksville; caretakers and family friends Kathy Chaffin and Christine Chandler.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mocksville Senior Living and Trellis Supportive Care for their care of Daniel.
The memorial service will be held on a later date.
