Charles was one of the bravest people we have ever known. Facing disability and death, he just laughed and took it all in stride. He lived life on his own terms, never compromising his beliefs and fighting to the very end. Johnny and I loved Charles and will always remember his indomitable spirit.

Charles was a special friend and teammate at Elkin High School. We shared many warm memories of our time together in the 60s. He was positive until the end and he reminded us of how fortunate we are. May he rest in peace.
