Charles Gilbert Polk, 87, completed his earthly journey Monday, November 12, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. His journey began in Ashe County on September 13, 1931, as the son of the late Oliver and Maude Ann Miller Polk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Brockwell; a brother, O.J. Polk; a sister, Gladys Smith; and a son-in-law, Howard Kelly, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ada Lou Miller Polk; two sons, Charles Polk of Cleveland and Leo Polk (Lynette) of Mocksville; four daughters: Carol Kelly of Winston-Salem, Kathy Hicks (Carl) of Boonville, Phillis Knight (Terry) of Salisbury and Sandra Pennington (Mike) of Millers Creek; two brothers, Ralph Polk of Cooleemee and Gene Polk (Mary) of West Jefferson, NC; one sister, Violet Sanders of Casar, NC; plus nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Mr. Polk was retired from Crown Wood Products and attended First Baptist Church of Cooleemee. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing, and he loved to read his Bible.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 Thursday, November 15, at Davie Funeral Chapel. The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church of Cooleemee with Pastor Allen Mullins and Rev. Stan Riddle officiating. The body will lie in state one-half hour prior to the time of service. Interment will follow at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery.
