Carl Malone Dyson

   Carl Malone Dyson, 81, of Mocksville, NC, departed this world on January 22, 2022. He was born on May 7, 1940, in Davie County and was the son of the late Thomas "Monzy" Dyson and Nannie (Reeves) Dyson. 

     Carl graduated from Davie County High School. He honored our country and served in the United States Army.   Later, Carl began a career in the lumber industry where he owned and operated a sawmill.  He was also a heavy equipment operator for many years until he retired in 2003.  Carl was a founding member of Sheffield-Calahaln Fire Department.  He was the chief for several years and was Firefighter of the Year in 2014.  In 2020, he was inducted into the Davie County Firefighter Hall of Fame.  He served with the department for more than 40 years.  Carl was of Christian faith and attended Liberty Wesleyan Church in Harmony.  

   Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nellie (Stephens) Dyson of Mocksville, a son, Carlton Brian Dyson (Tina) of Mocksville, three daughters, Tracy (Dyson) Smith (Dave) of Statesville, Carla Denise Dyson of Statesville, and Julie Marie Dyson of Mocksville, and a sister, Melba Feimster (Roger). Papaw will continue to be cherished by five grandsons and five granddaughters who will all miss him tremendously.

   A graveside service for Carl will be held on Wednesday, January 26, at 2:00 pm at Liberty Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Harmony.  Pastor Rob Garrison and Pastor Jesse Garmon will officiate the service.
