Boyd Tillette Hendrix, Jr., 78, of Miller’s Creek, North Carolina passed away Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at his home. He was born October 1, 1944 in Winston-Salem, NC.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Sr. and Marietta Hendrix of Winston-Salem. Boyd is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah Joyner Hendrix of Millers Creek; his daughter, Lofton Hendrix Montgomery (partner Neil Robbins) of Winston-Salem; brother Bob Hendrix (wife Kathy Hendrix) of Florida; step-son Aaron Long (wife Susan) of Clemmons; step-daughter Mandy Blalock (husband Preston) of Clemmons; 5 grandchildren (Dustin, Emma, Mason, Leah and JP) as well as a host of friends and close family members.
Boyd graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 1963 and attended East Carolina University for two years following his attendance at Gaston Technical Institute graduating in 1969. Boyd is a Veteran and served in the Navy from 1969 to 1973. For his service on the USS W. S. Sim, he earned a National Defense Service Medal achieving the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer with an honorable discharge.
After his military service, Boyd was employed at RJ Reynolds where he began his career at Bailey Power Plant. He eventually became a Senior Supervisor at the Tobaccoville Power Plant before retiring in 2001.
In 2010, Boyd had a cabin built in Miller’s Creek, North Carolina and spent a lot of his time enjoying nature and working to beautify the surrounding acreage. He and his wife, Deborah, permanently moved to Miller’s Creek in 2021.
A funeral and military service will be held for Boyd on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Blaise Baptist Church at 2:00pm with visitation starting at 1:00pm located at 134 Blaise Church Road in Mocksville, North Carolina followed by an internment at Blaise Baptist Church Cemetery.
At Boyd’s request, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
