Johnny Thomas Jones Sr., 80, of Mocksville, passed away on June 5, 2019 in Dobson, NC while under the care of the Woltz Hospice House.
Johnny was born on August 28, 1938 in Davie County, a son to the late Rufus Frank Jones and Martha Fetney Trivett Jones. He attended Davie County Schools and later married Hazel Lee Miller. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife Hazel, his brother Pete, and his sisters Ruth, Katie Whitaker, Josie Smith and Thelma Reavis.
In life, Johnny worked as a machine operator for Ingersol Rand for 30 years and he also spent 10 years proudly serving in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he completed his high school education and graduated. He attended the Chestnut Grove Methodist Church where he served as a backup Sunday school teacher. He loved being involved with the church. In his leisure time, Johnny liked working in his yard, as well as construction and woodworking.
Johnny is survived by a large and loving family, including his son Johnny Thomas Jones Jr. (Norma) of Yadkinville, son Donald Lee Jones (Tina) of Mocksville, daughter Debbie Hutchens (Billy) of Boonville, daughter Patty Jones Gunter of Mocksville, brother Wayne Jones (Linda) of Lexington, brother Gene Jones of Florida, sister Nancy Tilley (Charlie) of Winston-Salem, five grandchildren; Chad Vastel, Johnathan Jones, Crystal Jones, Brittney Auton and Courtney Jones, seven great-grandchildren; Bryleigh Vestal, Bree Auton, Colby Butcher, Gracie Butcher, Johnathan Mitchell Jones Jr., Olivia Seay and Mason Thomas Seay, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel in Mocksville from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will be held immediately following, also at the Davie Chapel, with Pastor David Gilbreath officiating. Interment will follow at Yadkin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Johnny’s honor can be sent to Mountain Valley Hospice.
