Joe Burris Flanagan, 80, of Mocksville, NC, died December 6, 2019 at his residence.
Joe was born October 13, 1939, in Pittsboro, MS., a son of the late William and Hattie (Burris) Flanagan. He was also preceded in death by a brother Edward Flanagan, sister Sara Jean, great granddaughter Holly, mother in law Martha York Souther.
Joe was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School in Mississippi. He served his country in the US Army, US Air Force, Army National Gaurd. Joe worked as a machine operator at Ingersol Rand for twenty six years. He attended Jerusalem Baptist Church. Joe loved cooking for his grandkids. He enjoyed Nascar, working on cars, dancing, spending time with family and friends, tending to his yard birds, and loved his white parrot “Gizmo”.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn Ann (Souther) Flanagan, sons Todd Flanagan (Nicole), Step-sons George and Joel Gregory, Daughter Dana Flanagan, Brother Malcom Flanagan, sister Marah Stanhope, the mother of his children Mary Alice Straney, grandchildren Mae Hicks, Nicole Maldonado, Jessica Chandler, Megan Royal, great grandchildren Collin Tuttle, Will Flanagan, Mason Chandler, Lane Royal, many nieces and nephews, many other family members.
Visitation will be held Friday December 13 from 6:00PM-9:00PM at Davie Funeral Service 416 Valley Road Mocksville, NC. Funeral Service will be held Saturday December 14, 2019 at 2:00PM in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and Rev. Terry Lee Souther Sr. are officiating the service. A private burial will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
