James "Doug" Hardin Obituary

James Douglas Hardin, 67, known to family and friends as “Doug”, departed this life Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from his home. Life began on September 21, 1951, in Raleigh County, WV, as the only son of the late Walter and Billie June Martin Hardin.

After attending public schools in West Virginia, he entered the United States Army and served honorably from 1969 until 1971. He was a Vietnam Veteran and completed Wheel Vehicle Mechanic Training. After his military service, he returned to his native West Virginia and worked as a coal miner and a mechanic in the mining industry which he loved. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, rebuilding cars and dearly loved spoiling his grandchildren. He was a Life Member of the VFW and a member of Davie Baptist Church.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Charlotte Marie Duncan Hardin, who had been his constant companion for 28 years; two sons, Michael Douglas Hardin (Mary) of Mocksville and Robert Ronald Prince of Daniels, WV; three daughters, Sandra Rene Hammer (Craig) of Asheboro, Lisa Dawn Wheeler and Kimberly Allen, both of Mocksville; five sisters: Carol Jean Smith (Ivan) of WV, Cindy King (Bill) of Advance, Edna Vestal of Lexington, NC, Marsha Snow and Mary Alice Williams (Brian), both of WV; five grandchildren: Joshua Marshall (Claudia), Jacqualyn Marshall (Jon), Brandon Hammer, Samantha Thompson (Jacob) and Cheyenne Richardson; two great grandchildren, Timothy Thompson and Lili Taylor, plus one “on the way”, Alexandria James Taylor, who is being named after her great grandfather.

Services will be conducted at his church, Davie Baptist, at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 27, with Pastor Robert James officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard and the NC Army National Guard Honors Team will be in the church cemetery following the service.
