Roy Baxter Broadway
Roy Baxter Broadway, 93, of Broadway Road, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the W.A. "Bill" Hefner Veterans Hospital in Salisbury. Born in Davie County on November 11, 1919, he was the son of the late Ira Adam Broadway and Cora Broome Broadway. He was retired from Food Service at the V.A. Hospital and attended Edgewood Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes; Central Europe, Naples-Foggia, and Rome-Arno. He received the Purple Heart, the EAMET Campaign Medal with 7 Bronze Service Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead, and the American Defense Service Medal
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia Cook Broadway; 3 sons, Ronald (Mary) Broadway, Kenneth Broadway, and Doug (Marilee) Broadway, all of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren, Julie Broadway (Michael) Byrd, Kelly Broadway (Eddie) Kluttz, Lee Broadway, and Adam Broadway and 3 great grandchildren, Micah Kluttz, Cassidy Kluttz, and Alex Byrd.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Frank Blankenship and Pastor Clyde Settle officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Salisbury National Cemetery (with military honors by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard and the National Guard.) The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
